LOST IN TRANSLATION

Because the 2019 Revival won a Tony Award, I expected a production that was different, but not one that was dismal. They must have lost the person in charge of continuity in Peoria, because the staging didn’t translate from a small, intimate theatre to a large venue proscenium stage. There was no consideration for the blocking, for transitions, for ACTING, for singing, etc. They could have phoned in a better performance. So glad I paid $350 to see the worst. performance. EVER. SAVE YOURSELF. Just say “no!” to this feller!

REIMAGINED NIGHTMARE

Worst performance we’ve ever seen. 6 out of 6 of us in our group thought it was a terrible perversion of a classic; to what avail? Plenty of shock and huh (?) no awe. The first half was bearable, the second was dreadful, especially the opening interpretive(?) dance and music. Another shock of a different type came at the end when we stood up to leave anticipating the crowd around and behind us only to realize that many many rows/seats that had been occupied were already empty. People got up and left or never came back for the second act! I will be researching productions in future before assumptions are made and tickets are bought. If this re-imagining nonsense is a trend I want no part of it. Judging by the empty seats previously occupied, I know I’m not alone! We’ve never seen so many people cut their loses and run! The best part of the show was the ending, and thankfully they didn’t totally botch the iconic song Oklahoma! What a bizarre production!

OKLAHOMA!

There are enough bad reviews here without leaving more detail. We left at intermission.

TERRIBLE PRODUCTION

I hope that someone at Bass reads this, because I sincerely want audiences to continue to support the various programs presented at Bass Hall. We have admired the way you were able to juggle performance, cancellations and reschedules over the last two years. Over many years we have been season ticket holders of the Symphony or Broadway series and have seen some magnificent performances. We have seen a few less than stellar performances, but we always looked forward to the next performance. Until last night we have never walk out of a performance of any kind or at any venue! The production of "Oklahoma", in a word was terrible! It was amateurish, dysfunctional, poorly directed, with singers that lacked voice control and were often not on key. The off-beat presentation of this traditionally wonderful musical was poorly done and should be an embarrassment to those responsible. We had read some of the reviews prior to attending, and were prepared for something "different". We were not prepared for something bad. After seeing Oklahoma butchered as badly as it was, I am questioning why we have signed up for the 2022-2023 season.

OKLAHOMA

From the opening number to the end, the voices of most of the actors was not what i have come to expect from Bass Hall. It was dark and not entertaining. Whoever booked this show did not know their audience. A lot of people left at intermission and did not return. On our row only two people gave a standing ovation. When leaving I heard a lot of disgruntled patrons.

OKLAHOMA

I can’t believe Bass Hall would show this. It was awful! My party left at intermission and so do half of the audience. I have been coming to Bass Hall for years and have never walked out of a show and never wanted to walk out! This “re-imaged” version ruined the original Oklahoma. The acting and dancing was way below everything else I have seen. The sound was terrible. I could barely hear the actors. I was looking forward to this musical and was sadly disappointed.

OKLAHOMA

Saw it today and it was awful. We left before it was over. I am not a season ticket holder so the tickets were very expensive. A season ticket holder told me it was the biggest disappointment of any show.
